AL-MUSAWWIR [The Fashioner]

AL-MUSAWWIR [The Fashioner] Allah's name
AL-MUSAWWIR

Root Word

Musawwir comes from the root saad-waw-raa, pointing to three main meanings;

  • To make something incline, lean, or bend.

  • To form, fashion, sculpt, imagine, or picture something.

  • To have an inclination or desire towards something.

Al-Musawwir Meaning

Al-Musawwir brings anything into existence, in a way He wills and in a distinct manner.

The three names of Allah, Al-Khaliq (The Creator), Al-Bari (The Producer), and Al-Musawwir (The Fashioner), are often thought of as being synonymous. However, each name has its own unique meaning that brings out a different aspect of Allah's creative process.

Al-Khaliq, The Creator, is the one who produces something from nothing. He is the one who plans and creates.

Al-Bari, The Producer, is the one who initiates and brings into existence. He is the one who initiates the creation and brings it into existence.

Al-Musawwir, The Fashioner, is the one who organizes and shapes the creation. He is the one who gives form and shape to the creation. Every single being is created differently, with their unique qualities, and attributes.

"He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise." [Qur'an 59:24]

Reflection

One day, Hazrat Abraham begged Allah to show him how He brought the dead back to life. Allah commanded Abraham to take four birds, cut them up, mingle their body parts, divide them into four portions, and place them on top of four different hills, then call back the birds in Allah's name. Abraham did as he was told. Immediately the mingled parts of the birds separated to join their original bodies in different places, and the birds flew back to Abraham. (Reference; Quran Ayah 2:260)

Subhanallah. How beautiful and awe-inspiring this verse is. It explains how perfectly perfect Allahﷻ is capable of not only creating creation, but giving them their uniqueness - and this is not limited to the creation of things, but also bringing back from existence, in the same manner, without any flaw or error.

Look Beyond the Appearances

It is not about just the appearance, but also the heart you have - Al-Musawwir has created every individual with a heart that beats for them, and a mind that works for them - different for everyone.

Do you ever feel that you lack something? Be it in your heart, your appearance, or your mind - know that nothing can ever be a mistake from Allah. He knows more, and better about us, and He has perfectly given us what He had chosen for us.

There is no bigger hope for anyone who feels they are less than anyone else that YOU ARE PERFECT. You know, this is not just a fake consolation to make you feel better, it is your Lord speaking to you.

Indeed, We have created the human being in the best of forms. [Quran, 95:4]

Do you think it was a mistake if you think your mind is not as amazing as your sibling's? Do you think it was a mistake if you feel less beautiful than someone else, or find yourself more beautiful than others?

Every single attribute, quality, shape, and form is from Allah, chosen perfectly for us. And what can be more beautiful than knowing that Allahﷻ has formed and shaped you Himself?

Not only does this tell us that Allahﷻ has made us in our best forms, but it also tells us that the lacks we see in ourselves are our limitations, and because of worldly and societal pressure and norms.

It also tells us to look inside ourselves and try to look for and find the best because it is already there.

The Face and The Heart

As a creation of Al-Musawwir, we must always try to look the best in us, and also in others, and understand that there is so much more than appearances - you know, the people with best of the faces, can be rude and cruel when you interact with then - sometimes, you meet someone who isn’t as pretty what the society tells us, but when they speak, you get to know them, you fall in love with them.

It’s the heart!

Imagine if everything our hearts contain was visible on our faces.

Imagine how people can hide the hate, envy, and jealousy, behind their faces?

Imagine we can change the appearances, but not the hearts.

And imagine, how merciful and perfect is our Lord that even giving everyone an outer appearance, which they can decorate however way they want, and yet it is the heart that He sees.

And it is a great reminder for us that our status with Allahﷻ is not based on our faces, but on what lies within our hearts, and that is what we should be worried about.

Be grateful for your heart, and be kind with your heart, and be so much worried about your heart, work on it, and for it - for this world is so temporary, and so small for what lies ahead of us.

And to meet our Lord, we should have a sound heart - a heart that is clean, free of malice, fearful of Allah, and immersed in His love.
