I hope you have already read in my previous blog about why this small practice has become a mindful tradition for me, and how it changed my perspective on life - if you haven’t, no worries, you can check it out here.
How to write a letter to yourself
"For me, from me—with love and hope"
Take a quiet moment to yourself. Grab a pen, a warm drink, or a cold one, whichever you like the most, and take a deep breath. The intention behind this is to write from the heart.
Remember, this is your safe space—where you can be honest, vulnerable, and loving.
1. Start with Gratitude:
"Dear you,
This year, I am so grateful for…"
Write about your blessings, the moments that made you smile, and the lessons you’ve learned this year.
2. Acknowledge your Struggles:
"I know this year hasn’t been easy. You’ve faced…"
Mention the challenges you’ve overcome and acknowledge your effort in getting through them.
3. Offer Yourself Encouragement:
"Through it all, you’ve shown so much strength and faith. I want you to remember…"
Reassure yourself for the future with words of kindness, love, and hope.
4. Reflect on Faith and Hope:
"Allah has guided you through every step, and I believe…"
Remind yourself of Allah’s wisdom, His love, and the beauty of trusting Him with your journey.
5. Dream for the Future:
"For the coming year, I hope you…"
Set intentions, aspirations, or even small wishes for yourself—things that align with your growth and well-being.
6. Close with Love:
"No matter what happens, remember that…"
Leave yourself with a heartfelt reminder of your worth, your faith, and the love you deserve.
It may seem like a small, trivial act—writing a letter to yourself. But its impact can ripple through your life in ways you wouldn’t expect. It’s more than words on a page; it’s a bridge to your future self, a quiet moment of self-love, and a reminder of Allah’s care and wisdom in your journey.
This simple habit allows you to console yourself during hard times, celebrate your victories, and reflect on how far you’ve come. It anchors you in hope and helps you see how everything—every joy and struggle—is part of Allah’s perfect plan.
So, don’t underestimate the power of sitting down with a pen and pouring your heart out to yourself. It’s not just a letter; it’s a gift to your soul. And when you read it next year, you’ll realize just how much you care for the person you’re becoming.
Let me know in the comments if you are writing a letter to yourself this year.
